ABOUT OAROC
Oakland Anti-Racism Organizing Committee is a network of artists, activists, and educators of color committed to social justice inquiry and the establishment of a long-term presence of the People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond (PISAB) in this region. We came together as a group of socially conscious artists. Individually and collectively, we have been concerned about the need to increase people’s skill, will and stamina with respect to undoing racism in its myriad forms in our communities.
Oakland Anti-Racism Organizing Committee (OAROC) partners include: Black Teacher Project, Deep Waters Dance Theater, Dimensions Dance Theater, Earthchild, the Greenlining Institute, Omi Gallery, and Juanita Brown. Members of these organizations/groups began meeting over two years ago to bring these workshops to fruition here in the Bay Area.
Our purpose is to bring leadership development through anti-racism training to individuals who represent a wide range of activism and organizing in the bay area who are committed to social justice inquiry and racial equity. Our Undoing Racism workshops in partnership with the PISAB provide participants a deeper understanding of internalized and systemic racism. With this information and more, our network of individuals will possess the tools to combat and dismantle systemic racism.
Leadership development outcomes:
• Cultivate a network of individuals who have completed the workshop and are equipped and willing to plant and cultivate the seeds of anti-racism practices within their own personal lives, communities, organizations, workplaces, and educational systems, etc;
• Cultivate a cadre of anti-racism organizers equipped to advocate for and exact anti-racism policy at all levels;
• Cultivate a team of Undoing Racism workshop facilitators and trainers who represent our Bay wide network of artist-organizers to expand the reach of the trainings and workshops.
OAROC is fiscally sponsored by Dimensions Dance Theater, a 501c3 organization. TaxID #23-7279914
